About our program

Look Good Feel Better is a free, national community service program, run by the Cancer Patients Foundation. The program has been designed to help cancer patients manage the appearance-related side-effects caused by any type of treatment for any type of cancer.

Since the first workshop in Sydney in May 1990, more than 170,000 women, men and teens undergoing cancer treatment across Australia have benefitted from participating in the program.

Four services are offered as part of the Look Good Feel Better program, and all have been developed with the purpose of empowering those undergoing cancer treatment by equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge needed to face their cancer diagnosis with confidence.

The Look Good Feel Better program relies on the support of 1,000 trained cosmetic, beauty and hairdressing professionals who volunteer their time and expertise to help deliver the workshops across Australia.

The Cancer Patients Foundation, responsible for running the Look Good Feel Better program, is an independent not-for-profit organisation, not affiliated with any other cancer charity or support service. With no government funding, the Cancer Patients Foundation relies on the generosity of corporate and community supporters to allow for the Look Good Feel Better program to be provided to cancer patients free-of-charge.

More information about how you can support the Look Good Feel Better program is available on our Fundraise for us, Our events and Ways to give pages. The Cancer Patients Foundation Limited (ABN 80 051 758 368) is a charity endorsed as a deductible gift recipient and donations $2 and over are tax-deductible.

Face-to-Face Workshops

about_card_face-to-face
We currently hold approximately 1,000 Face-to-Face Workshops in 180 venues across Australia each year.

In a comfortable and supportive group environment, our dedicated team of volunteers address common concerns and changes to the appearance that result from cancer treatment. We demonstrate a skincare routine to assist with side-effects like dryness and sun sensitivity; provide make-up tips to help correct and conceal redness, sallowness, pigmentation and dark circles, as well as demonstrating techniques for drawing on eyebrows and eyelashes; and offer advice on headwear options, including scarf styling and wig selection.

Each of our workshop participants receives a Confidence Kit full of skincare and make-up products donated by the cosmetic industry. The products in the Kit are used as tools to practice the techniques being demonstrated throughout the workshop and can then be taken home for continued use.

Our participants also benefit from the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation. Friendships and support networks are formed during our workshops that can provide comfort while navigating the diagnosis and treatment experience.

Virtual Workshops

about_card_virtual-3
Our Virtual Workshops are live and interactive and offer cancer patients the opportunity to engage with those in a similar situation without the need to leave the comfort of home.

A range of Virtual Workshop options are available, offering cancer patients of all ages, genders, and cancer types the opportunity to learn practical strategies to manage the physical, psychological and social impacts of cancer treatment.

During the interactive workshops our facilitator provides practical information and demonstrates a range of techniques, while participants follow along and ask questions as we go.

Patients can choose to register for as many workshops as they would like to attend.

Visit our Virtual Workshops page for more information on the range of available options.

Home-Delivered Confidence Kits

about_card_confidence-kit_edit
For those cancer patients who are unable to attend a Look Good Feel Better workshop for health, travel or personal reasons, our Home-Delivered Confidence Kit service is available.

Our Home-Delivered Confidence Kits contain a range of skincare and cosmetic products, an instructional booklet and links to our practical video guides.

The Kit provides everything needed to guide patients through the skincare, make-up and headwear techniques normally covered in a workshop, at their own pace, from the comfort of their own home.

Confidence Consults

about_card_consult
Our one-hour Confidence Consults are available in the Sydney-based Look Good Feel Better National Office, to accommodate those cancer patients who aren’t able to attend a workshop.

Our one-hour Confidence Consults are available in the Sydney-based Look Good Feel Better National Office, where a consultation space has been customised to accommodate those cancer patients who aren’t able to attend a workshop because of clashes with their treatment or work schedule, or who are uncomfortable in a group setting. The service is provided by our trained and qualified volunteers, offering an equal level of expertise and comfort as our Face-to-Face and Virtual Workshops.

While patients are taken through the same practical skincare, make-up and headwear demonstrations that are covered in our workshops, our Confidence Consults allow for a more customised focus on areas of concern for each individual patient and offer a more discreet environment. Patients are also provided with a Confidence Kit, take-home information booklet and links to our video guides.
