Feel Better Month runs throughout September and encourages all Australians to acknowledge the importance of self-confidence and a positive mindset, in support of the thousands of cancer patients who will benefit from the Look Good Feel Better program this year.
With more than 150,000 Australians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in 2021*, we want to ensure all women, men and teens undergoing any type of treatment for any type of cancer continue to have access to our services, and the opportunity to receive our support if they wish to.
But we can’t achieve this without your help.
All services provided by Look Good Feel Better have been developed with the purpose of empowering those undergoing cancer treatment, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to face their cancer diagnosis with confidence.
Your help in raising awareness and funds will ensure that all Australians undergoing treatment for cancer can benefit from the Look Good Feel Better program, free-of-charge.
We’d love for you to celebrate with us during Feel Better Month, and help us spread the word. Here’s how you can get involved throughout September:
For the whole month of September at David Jones, and from Sunday 5th to Saturday 18th of September at Myer, $1 from every lipstick or lip gloss purchased in-store or online will be donated to Look Good Feel Better in support of Feel Better Month.
Purchase a pop of colour for your pout, and know you’ll be looking good while making positive change through the Look Good Feel Better program!
Visit David Jones here and Myer here. And don’t forget to post a selfie tagging @LGFBAustralia and #LookGoodMakeChange
In addition to our women’s, men’s and young adults Virtual Workshops, we’re offering a number of quick and easy tutorials through Facebook Live on some of the most commonly requested topics, as well as a range of virtual workshops focusing on overall wellness. We also have several language workshops available throughout the month.
A number of experts in their fields will be joining us for the sessions, ensuring they’ll be packed with practical information.
The schedule is available to view below, and can be downloaded here.
To join us on Facebook Live, follow us at facebook.com/LGFBAustralia and view each tutorial through our Events listing. To see available Virtual Workshop dates and times, click here.
You can hold a creative (and ‘physically distant’) fundraising activity in support of Look Good Feel Better any time throughout the month.
Take a look at our fundraising guide to get some ideas, and register your event.
If you are celebrating a special occasion in September, asking your family and friends for a donation to Look Good Feel Better rather than a gift is a remarkable way to make a difference.
Your generosity will allow more Australians to participate in the Look Good Feel Better program, helping them face their cancer diagnosis with confidence – an extra-special cause for celebration!
You can choose to create a fundraising page to share with friends and family or simply make a one-off donation – visit our Donate page here
Share a photo of your fundraising activity, or share one of our social media posts. Let your followers know about our cause, and encourage them to show their support too. The more people know about us, the more people we can help! Be sure to tag us – @LGFBAustralia and use #LGFBAustralia #FeelBetterMonth
As an independent not-for-profit organisation, not affiliated with any other cancer charity or support service, and with no government funding, it is your generosity that allows us to provide our program free-of-charge to cancer patients across the country.

Dry July challenges you to go alcohol-free in July while raising funds to support cancer patients and their families.
Since 2015, the Dry July Foundation has contributed $1.7 million dollars in funding to the Look Good Feel Better program, with $686,000 of this total being raised by individuals taking part throughout July.
This has allowed us to help over 22,000 Australians undergoing cancer treatment.
You can sign up for Dry July yourself, put together a team, or donate to support someone else who’s going dry for the month.
How your participation in Dry July will help
In 2021 we need 1,000 participants taking part in Dry July for Look Good Feel Better.
One Face-to-Face Workshop supporting 10 cancer patients costs over $1,000 to run.
Providing one cancer patient with a Home-Delivered Confidence Kit and access to our Virtual Workshops costs over $100.
By taking part in Dry July this year, you can help us reach our fundraising target of $260,000, allowing us to provide our program to 3,300 cancer patients.
Your support will help patients like Vicky, who said:
"Once treatment commenced, I was surprised at the lack of support available to me – I didn’t ‘tick the box’ with most charities as I was young, female and not diagnosed with a specific ‘women’s cancer.’ It was such a confusing time. I would reach out to charities looking for mental health support and ways to connect with other young women in the same situation, but then be turned away. So, when I found out about Look Good Feel Better, I was over the moon that I was eligible and I couldn’t wait to attend a workshop.
I took away practical advice like make-up tricks, self-care tips and options for head coverings, but I also left feeling empowered and re-energised from a few hours of fun.
Friends and family were grateful that I’d finally found the like-minded support and human connection I’d been looking for. The physical changes resulting from cancer treatment can have such a huge mental impact on a patient – Look Good Feel Better workshops give patients the skills and confidence to leave the room feeling empowered and with options.
The life-long impacts and mental health challenges following remission were way more of a shock to me than the actual diagnosis. Cancer is still mainly viewed in terms of the medical diagnosis and treatment of a physical illness, but I found it to be far more mentally, socially and emotionally challenging, than just a disease of the body.
I will be forever grateful for the Look Good Feel Better program. It gave me a place to find the understanding and connection I’d been desperately seeking, at a time when many other avenues weren’t available.
I always recommend Look Good Feel Better to others going through treatment. It’s the one place I felt welcomed, understood and had fun!"

With the first ever Australian Look Good Feel Better workshop held in May, 1990 at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, we are celebrating 30 years of our program in 2020!
Since 1990, Look Good Feel Better has helped more than 150,000 women, men and teens across Australia face their cancer diagnosis with confidence.
We’ve done this with the help of 15,000 litres of moisturiser, 298,000 lipsticks and 9,000 kilograms of foundation.
But more importantly, we’ve done this with care, compassion, and understanding.
And we could not have done this without the support of people like you.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we ask you to Celebrate Confidence with us. Celebrate the difference you can make during such a life-changing time for the 150,000 Australians who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.

Look Good Feel Better Australia follows the Cancer Council's recommendation in regards to sunscreen use. That is, that a minimum SPF30 broad spectrum sun protection is applied at least 20 minutes before going outdoors and re-applied at least every two hours.
Sunscreen needs to be applied liberally - at least one teaspoon on each limb, front and back of the body, and half a teaspoon for the face, neck and ears. Most people apply less than half this amount, which means they get far less protection than the SPF stated on the bottle. Sunscreen must always be stored in a cool and dry place under 25 degrees celsius and thrown out if past its expiry date. No sunscreen, even if it is reapplied regularly, offers complete protection against UV radiation. Always use sunscreen in conjunction with other forms of sun protection like clothing that covers as much skin as possible, a hat, sunglasses and seek shade when outdoors.
The Cancer Council also recommends patch testing of sunscreen prior to first time use. Patch testing is especially important for those undergoing cancer treatment, as skin can be particularly sensitive during this time.
How do sunscreens work?
Sunscreens either absorb or reflect UV radiation. Sunscreens do this via ingredients called 'UV filters'. There are two main categories of UV filters:
A sunscreen may contain one or both types since different UV filters are effective against different UV wavelengths.
What does broad spectrum mean?
The sun produces two types of UV radiation that can damage the skin: UVA and UVB. Broad-spectrum sunscreens provide protection from both types of radiation. Broad spectrum performance is determined by an internationally recognised test procedure.
Please also note that all primary sunscreens on the Australian market are subject to rigorous safety checks by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and must additionally meet mandatory quality and performance tests specified by Australian Standards.
